About Us

Girlfriends Estate Sales, founded in 1994, is the leading and most innovative estate sales company in King County, Washington.

In 1994, Becky Mehtala opened an antique mall in Renton named Antique Palace and then a second location called Antique Palace Too. By request, she helped a select number of store clients conduct garage and estate sales on the side. After selling the malls in 1999 to care for her ailing father, she opened a new store in 2000 called Girlfriends Antiques and Collectibles. As she continued to receive more and more requests for estate sale help, she eventually decided to pursue the estate sale business full time.

During the past 20 years, GES has conducted and presented over 1000+ estate sales in the Seattle area, and when the services of the company were exclusively requested, estate sales have also been presented in other states including Hawaii. We conduct an average of 2+ sales per weekend on approximately 50 weekends of the year. These sales include small, large, and historic homes, as well as condominiums and townhouses.

National Estate Sales Association

Becky Mehtala, owner and president of Girlfriends Estate Sales Inc., is proud to be a Co-Founding board member of the National Estate Sales Association (NESA).

Becky strongly believes the estate sales industry has a need for a not-for-profit trade association guided by industry leaders giving of their time to share important standards with their fellow estate sales professionals. The ten founding members of NESA have worked together to develop a code of ethics, best business practices, and continuing education to address the needs of companies from across the country regardless of their business models or their state regulations.

Becky is excited to share her knowledge and expertise with fellow NESA members. Since she started her initial antiques business in 1994, the industry has changed dramatically. Historically, estate sales were conducted after someone passed away, but more and more frequently clients are using estate sales companies to downsize their family homes and prepare for retirement. The “Baby Boomer” generation is finding that their adult children aren’t always able to or interested in inheriting their parent’s household goods.

Estate sales companies must provide excellent customer service on two fronts–carefully managing seller expectations and needs while providing an enjoyable retail experience for shoppers–to be valued as a professional company with a positive reputation. During the past 22 years, Girlfriends Estate Sales has conducted over 1000+ estate sales in the Seattle area (an average of 2 sales per weekend) and approximately 75% of our business comes from referrals. Becky believes in being part of a non-profit organization that provides valuable resources for the industry, customers, and clients, and she is proud that NESA is an organization of professionals for professionals.
